Recipes To Try, Part 1!

Hey guys!  I thought of yet another new blog feature to start up.  There are so many recipes that I have stumbled upon online (seriously.  You should see my bookmarks.) and I really want to start making them instead of just drooling over the photos.  I'm going to share a list of some recipes and then I'm actually going to make them and do a little review of how they turned out.  Maybe if enough people are interested, we can do a monthly challenge link-up thing?  Let me know if you would be interested!

Every month we could pick a certain number of recipes to try (maybe one for each week of the month?  Or more if you are up for more of a challenge!) and then blog about your results.   Hopefully some of you guys are into that idea!  They don't have to be hard recipes at all!  It's mostly just to help you get inspired to start making the recipes that you are always looking at and saving for another day.

I want to start getting more involved with you guys and my blog, and this would also help out with my terrible food photography.  Ha.  I totally need to practice!  Anyway, here is my list for the month!  (And, um, I realize that the month of July is almost over... but I don't want to wait to share this new idea with you guys, ha!)

1.  In Southern Ontario corn is finally in season.  Well, almost.  August is usually the start of the season.  Last week I had some locally grown corn that was delicious and it got me excited to start trying out some different recipes starring corn on the cob.  The first is Corn with Cilantro Lime Butter and Cotija Cheese from For the Love of Cooking:
(I've actually never heard of Cotija Cheese before, but a quick google search tells me that it's a Mexican cheese and tastes similar to Parmesean.)
2.  In keeping with the corn on the cob celebration (ha), I want to try this Creamed Summer Corn recipe from the amazingly-talented Tracy of Shutterbean. The ingredients in the two recipes are similar, but the way you cook the corn is different.  I'm curious to see which one I prefer!
3.    This Spaghetti with Lemon & Parmesean from Simply-Delicious sounds... well, simply delicious!  I almost always eat pasta with a tomato sauce that I make and this recipe sounds like a nice (and easy!) change.
4. I have been wanting to make pizza on the BBQ for years! Hopefully committing to it in this new blog challenge will make me finally do it, ha!   I'm going to use my own pizza dough recipe and different toppings, but this recipe from In a Nutshell definitely got my mouth watering.
5.  Unfortunately the only Mexican restaurant in my city is a Taco Bell... and that doesn't even count.  Ha.  Keith & I loooooooove queso sauce but the only kind I can ever find is the stuff made by Tostitos.   Luckily, I cam across this recipe for Queso Blanco Dip by Annie Eats:
6. With all the fresh fruit that is in season right now, this recipe for Fruit Salsa with Baked Cinnamon Chips by the Girl Who Ate Everything would be absolutely perfect:

7.  Now I need some sort of new drink to make to go along with all of these new dishes.  Strawberry Iced Tea by Room For Dessert sounds just right:
(By the way, recipe is looking like suuuuuuuuuch a weird word right now!  I have said it in my head/typed it way too much just now and it seems like it is spelled wrong!  Haha.  Does that ever happen to you?)

  1. Wowza, I just ate and I am instantly hungry for all that food.

Road trip to Portland? Sounds great!

  2. Oh I loooove lemon parm pasta! And queso dip!

  3. Corn is the official food of summer as far as i'm concerned! I get an ear of roasted corn every saturday and slather it with lots o' butter and lemon pepper :)

  4. oh these all look so yummy. thanks for sharing. that corn on the cob is calling my name. :)
